Infant & Newborn Chiropractic in Wichita, KS

The first weeks and months of your baby's life set the foundation for everything that comes after. If your newborn is struggling with feeding, sleeping, or just seems uncomfortable, there may be a structural reason — and it's often connected to the birth process itself.

At New Beginnings Chiropractic, we provide gentle chiropractic care for newborns and infants in Wichita, helping your baby's nervous system settle and their body develop without interference.

Why Newborns Benefit From Chiropractic

Birth is your baby's first physical challenge. Whether delivery was vaginal, assisted (vacuum or forceps), or by C-section, the process places significant force on your baby's head, neck, and spine. This can create subtle misalignments and tension patterns that affect how your baby feeds, sleeps, and regulates.

Many of the common newborn challenges parents face — difficulty latching, excessive fussiness, reflux, and favoring one side — are connected to these early tension patterns. Gentle chiropractic assessment and care can identify and address them early, before they compound.

What We Look For in Your Baby

During your baby's assessment, we check for tension in the neck and spine, restricted range of motion, asymmetry in head position or body posture, and signs of nervous system stress. We also ask about your baby's birth story, feeding patterns, sleep behavior, and developmental milestones.

Common signs that bring parents to our office include difficulty nursing or latching on one side, excessive crying or fussiness (especially in the evening), frequent spitting up or arching after feeds, head tilt or preference to turn one direction, and trouble settling for sleep.

How Gentle Is a Baby's Adjustment?

This is the question every parent asks — and it's a good one. Infant adjustments use light fingertip pressure, comparable to what you'd use to test the ripeness of a piece of fruit. There is no cracking, twisting, or forceful movement. Most babies relax during their adjustment, and many fall asleep.

Dr. Ashley Thompson has been adjusting newborns since 2006 and holds the CACCP — the ICPA's advanced pediatric certification. She is the only chiropractor in Wichita with this credential.

When to Bring Your Baby In

We recommend having your baby assessed as early as possible — ideally within the first few weeks of life. Early intervention allows us to identify and address tension patterns before they become entrenched. That said, it's never too late. We see infants at every stage.

If your baby is showing signs of tongue tie, colic, reflux, or torticollis, a gentle assessment can help us understand what's going on and how to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

How soon after birth can a baby see a chiropractor?

Within the first few days. Many parents bring their newborns in within the first week or two of life for an initial assessment.

How gentle is an adjustment for a newborn?

Extremely gentle — light fingertip pressure only. No cracking or forceful techniques. Most babies stay calm or fall asleep during their visit.

What are signs my baby might need chiropractic?

Difficulty latching or nursing, excessive fussiness, reflux, head tilt, trouble sleeping, and arching during or after feeds are common signs.

Can chiropractic help with breastfeeding difficulties?

Yes. When tension in the neck, jaw, or upper spine restricts your baby's ability to latch and suck effectively, gentle adjustments can help restore proper movement and improve feeding.
